The Phoenix

A phoenix is a mythical bird that is a fire spirit with a colorful plumage and a tail of gold and scarlet (or purple, blue, and green according to some legends) and a melodious cry.

The Phoenix symbolises rebirth, peaceful and prosperous times, harmony and longevity. It is one of the four celestial guardians of the directions (the South) and represents the union of yin and yang. Only one Phoenix lived at any one time.

As the end of life approached for the Phoenix, it made a nest of aromatic branches, frankincense and spices and then set it on fire, the Phoenix appeared rarely and only to mark the beginning of a new era. It was a symbol of high virtue, grace, power and prosperity.
